Understandin Migration - World Refugee Week Launch
On behalf of Roscommon County Council, we would like to warmly invite members of the Community Integration Forum to attend an upcoming talk entitled “Understanding Migration: Data, Displacement and the Human Experience.” This two-part talk will take place on Thursday, 11 June at 11:00 a.m. in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon Town, and will feature guest speakers Penelope Muteteli and Kiere Murphy.
We believe this session will be particularly valuable for the CIF, as it directly supports the forum’s role in fostering inclusive communities and creates understanding of migration and the impetus behind movement. The event offers a unique opportunity to deepen understanding of both the human and policy dimensions of migration—knowledge that can help inform the CIF’s work in identifying needs, shaping local responses, and promoting intercultural awareness across the county.
Penelope Muteteli will share her powerful lived experience of forced migration, reflecting on her journey from Rwanda and her current work with the World Health Organization supporting Palestinian communities. Her perspective will provide meaningful insight into the realities of displacement, resilience, and identity, helping CIF members better understand the personal experiences behind migration.
Kiere Murphy will complement this with a policy-focused overview, exploring asylum trends, Ireland’s immigration flows, public attitudes, and relevant statistics. This will support CIF members in engaging with migration issues from a more informed and evidence-based perspective, helping to address misconceptions and contribute constructively to local integration planning.
This event also marks the launch of World Refugee Week (15–21 June), providing an important opportunity for reflection and awareness-raising on the experiences of refugees and people seeking international protection.
We would be delighted if CIF members could attend and contribute to this important conversation. Please RSVP by emailing eward@roscommoncoco.ie to confirm your attendance. Further details are available in the attached flyer below.
