IBAL(Irish Business Against Litter)
Roscommon Town is the only town in the County taking part in this National Anti-Litter League. Roscommon County Council works with the Tidy Towns Committee and Chamber of Commerce to achieve the best results for the town in the competition. As a result there is increased awareness amongst businesses and citizens with regard to litter and its negative implications.
National Gum Litter Campaign
The aim of this campaign is to encourage responsible disposal of gum litter, and Roscommon County Council delivers this national campaign locally in partnership with Tidy Towns committees and secondary school students.
National Litter Pollution Monitoring
Litter surveys are carried out annually in order to quantify littering in the county. These surveys provide statistics in relation to the most common types of litter, and the extent and severity of litter pollution in the county. The results enable the local authority to target resources at litter management in the county.
Partnership with Community
Roscommon County Council works closely with Tidy Towns Committees, schools and residents associations in developing campaigns that highlight the problem of litter and endeavour to change attitudes at a local level.
