Roscommon’s Age Friendly Strategy was officially launched on 20th October 2025 by Roscommon County Council Chief Executive and Chairperson of the Age Friendly Alliance, Shane Tiernan. Speaking at the event, he highlighted that the Strategy “reflects the high level of commitment and focus to continue improving the lives of older people that has been established in the county over the last number of years.”

The Strategy sets out a clear vision for Roscommon, where people of all ages can thrive. Built on the principles of inclusivity, engagement and empowerment, it aims to create a supportive and vibrant community that values the contribution of older residents. Its core ambition is to ensure that older people can remain active, connected and fulfilled within their local communities, with the services, infrastructure and opportunities they need to live well.
