Ignite the Spark

Ignite the Spark is an intergenerational project connecting residents of the Sacred Heart Hospital and Care Home in Roscommon and members of Roscommon County Youth Theatre. Led by creative theatre and education arts practitioner, Catherine Sheridan, the project celebrates and connects young and old through chats, stories, memories, laughter, using a variety of creative tools. Different generations may have different values, beliefs and opinions. However, it is important to recognise that each of these values, beliefs and opinions have a place and should be accommodated. Using a gentle, sensitive approach this facilitated programme addresses preconceptions and stereotypical representations of the different generations. Ignite the Spark supports the building of meaningful relationships, whilst acknowledging the differences between one generation and another. Ignite the Spark is funded by Roscommon County Council under the Creative Ireland Programme.

Gulliver’s Head at Lilliput Way
Lilliput Way is a place inspired by the imagination of our community – it is about fairies, wizards, wishes, magic and mythical kingdoms. A 10-foot-tall sculpture of a friendly Giant Head of Gulliver in the land of the Lilliputians on Lilliput Way Kilteevan is we think, a unique initiative adding art, myth, mystery creativity and literature.. Having GIANT ideas is one thing but could we find someone in Roscommon capable of gigantic magical arts? We did! And he lived just a few miles away. Could it be done? Mark Feely a local sculptor astounded us when he stated – “yes that is possible, I could do that.” Mark stated that old stone would need to be sourced to give the sculpture the authentic look which would be enhanced by weathering.
Gulliver is art that will stand the test of time. It will change with the landscape throughout the seasons and over time. We feel it is a worthwhile unique investment in place making. We believe it will open hearts, eyes and minds. Gulliver for Lilliput Way is Creative Ireland at its very best- a project of the people, for the people, by the people.

Felt Fairies, Cruinniú na nÓg Leprechaun Trails

As part of the July Stimulus Package of 2021, creative practitioner Franziska Leinberger was commissioned to create her wonderful leprechauns. They were dotted around 5 of our counties most favourite walking trails and the exploration and excitement did not stop there. The characters, each approx 40cms tall, became an interactive experience as children were encouraged to go online to Franziska’s website to see the names and stories behind each of the leprechauns that they had found.
An array of personalities, jobs they had in the woods, likes and dislikes were described by Franziska in stories as colourful as her felt creations and really added to the mystique and folklore behind the creatures.
