Call for Community Climate Action Projects

The Community Climate Action Programme is a new programme to support small and large, rural and urban communities to take climate action at a local level. Roscommon County Council, in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications will support communities to shape and build low carbon, sustainable communities in a coherent way to contribute to national climate and energy targets.

The Community Climate Action Programme has been developed by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications to support small and large, rural and urban communities to take climate action at local level. The overall objective of the programme is to empower communities, in partnership with their Local Authority, to shape and build low carbon, sustainable communities in a coherent way to contribute to national climate and energy targets. 

The Community Climate Action Programme has been developed by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications to support small and large, rural and urban communities to take climate action at local level. The overall objective of the programme is to empower communities, in partnership with their Local Authority, to shape and build low carbon, sustainable communities in a coherent way to contribute to national climate and energy targets. 

Completing the EOI will be beneficial for any groups wishing to apply for funding. It ensures that applicants fully understand the project requirements and can maximise the positive impact on their communities.

Who can apply?

Eligible community organisations must:

  • be a not-for-profit organisation.
  • be located within Co. Roscommon.
  • submit a completed application form on or before the specified closing date and time.
  • be registered with Roscommon PPN or connected with other collectives such as the Wheel, Tidy Towns and /or a community group with Articles of Association or a Constitution, which hold an AGM, and for which approved minutes are available.

What projects are eligible ?

Projects must demonstrate the delivery of national climate action at a local level for strand 2. Project proposals should try to incorporate as many themes as possible. There are five programme themes:

  • Home/energy
  • Travel
  • Food and waste
  • Shopping and recycling
  • Local climate and environmental action

Types of eligible projects could include:

  • Solar Panels and related equipment
  • Retrofitting of community buildings
  • Energy efficiency upgrades
  • LED community lighting
  • Community EV charging points
  • Low carbon technology/equipment
  • Bike racks or other infrastructure
  • Materials for community gardens
  • Materials for repair hubs
  • Composting facilities
  • Pollinator projects
  • Mini forest
What funding is available ?

 Funding is available for 100% of the project and there are three project sizes eligible:

  • Small scale projects up to €20,000
  • Medium scale projects €20,000 to €50,000
  • Large scale projects €51,000 to €100,000
