Undertaking of UAV Drone Video and Photographic Aerial Surveys

NOTICE IN RELATION TO THE UNDERTAKING OF UAV DRONE VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHIC AERIAL SURVEYS FOR ACTIVE TRAVEL PROJECTS IN COUNTY ROSCOMMON
On behalf of Roscommon County Council (Data Controller), SKYFAB will be undertaking Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Drone video and photographic aerial surveys for Active Travel projects in County Roscommon from the 3rd June 2025 to 21st April 2026. Drone surveys will be conducted along the public road at the following locations across the county, to capture aerial imagery of active travel scheme sites before and after project completion;

- Bealnamullia Athlone Active Travel Scheme (Cloonakille, Bealnamullia and Monksland townlands)
- Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge Roscommon Town, Active Travel Scheme (Ardnanagh townland)
- Castle Lane, Roscommon Permeability Link, Active Travel Scheme
- Station Road Pedestrian Enhancement Carrick on Shannon Train Station
- R363 Claremont (Ballyforan) Active Travel Safety Measures
- L2018 Curraghboy Junction Tightening, Active Travel Safety Measures
- Old Galway Road (Springwell Road) Active Travel Scheme (Monksland and Bellaugh townlands)

Surveys at each site will typically be completed within one day, with on-site notices displayed for the full duration of the work.
The purpose of these surveys is to obtain high-quality aerial photographs and video footage for inclusion in reports which Roscommon County Council will submit to the National Transport Authority (NTA) as the Approving Authority for the National Active Travel Investment Programme. Additionally, approved images and videos may be used by Roscommon County Council and the NTA to promote Active Travel schemes on their websites and social media platforms.
SKYFAB is currently licenced and registered under the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) to operate drones for such aerial surveys. All works are carried out by competent pilots for SKYFAB who are licenced by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA). As part of the IAA Licence SKYFAB are compliant with Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) Rules and Regulations and the Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2003.
A Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) has been completed for this project.
