The Corporate Policy Group (CPG)

The statutory basis for Corporate Policy Group (CPG) is set out in section 133 of the Local Government Act 2001, as amended by section 48 of the 2014 Act. The CPG provides a forum for policy issues which transcend the remit of individual Strategic Policy Committees (SPC) and Municipal Districts. The work of the different SPC’s is co-ordinated through the CPG with membership comprising of

  • Cathaoirleach;
  • Chairpersons of each Strategic Policy Committee and
  • where the Municipal District is not already represented, a member of such Municipal District.

Acting as a link between the SPCs and the full council, the CPG has an active role in the preparation of the draft budget. It determines whether a function will be discharged at the municipal district or authority level, where reference in relation to this question is made to it. It must also be consulted in the preparation of the corporate plan. The Chief Executive and Management Team also participates and supports the work of the CPG. The Corporate Policy Group will meet as often as required and there will be a minimum of six meetings per annum.

Cathaoirleach: Cllr. Laurence Fallon
