Importance of Digital Strategy

Roscommon is currently finalising its digital strategy for publication. Digital is becoming a critical enabler of competitiveness, productivity, inclusiveness and sustainability for all organisations and regions. Like many regions, Roscommon has a mix of urban and rural population, significant variation in broadband provision and an enterprise base dominated by traditional and mature industry sectors.

The importance of access to high speed broadband services in both urban and rural locations has been well documented in recent years. Roscommon County Council is committed to facilitating the rollout of the NBP and recognises the vital role broadband will play in economic and social development. In line with the NBP deliverables, Roscommon County Council is developing this digital strategy to maximise the opportunities of digital transformation for the benefit of our society and economy, ensuring that Roscommon is among the best places to live, work, invest or visit.

The strategy will create awareness and connections to training and supports for businesses and citizens to reduce the skills gap and encourage more young people into digital careers. The strategy is based on the 3 pillars of Digital Infrastructure, Community & Culture and Digital Economy & Enterprise. The strategy has been developed by examining the services provision in the county, a community and business survey and is supported by a Digital Council agenda. Each section in the strategy will have a range of objectives and actions to address the digital vision of the county.

Submissions for the Digital Strategy have now closed and we are currently working on putting the data and information collated together. Check back soon for a further update.
