Introducing Roscommon Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP)
The Roscommon Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) is a new approach to community safety being delivered as a cross‑government initiative led by the Department of Justice, in line with the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024. The establishment of a Local Community Safety Partnership in each Local Authority places a clear focus on identifying and delivering actions that improve community safety at local level.
The Roscommon LCSP is committed to supporting a community that is safe, inclusive and welcoming for residents, visitors and businesses. The partnership is community‑focused and aims to make Roscommon a safer place to live, work and enjoy. Building on the county’s strong sense of place and physical environment, the LCSP will work with all stakeholders to ensure that safety is a shared priority across Roscommon.
A key element of the LCSP’s work is engagement. The partnership will listen to local communities, statutory bodies, public representatives, local groups and educators to understand concerns, experiences and ideas relating to safety. Through this collaborative approach, the LCSP committee will develop and implement a Community Safety Strategy for Roscommon to address identified priorities and objectives.
The LCSP will provide local people with a stronger voice in identifying and addressing community safety issues
How will it work best for the Roscommon community?
The LCSP is a collaborative approach to improving safety within a community by bringing together various local agencies, organisations, and stakeholders. The goal is to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors in Roscommon through coordinated efforts and shared resources..
The Roscommon LCSP is now fully established and operational. Roscommon County Council has appointed Patrick Flanagan as Community Safety Coordinator and Niamh Duffy as Community Safety Administrator, they are supporting the work of the partnership. The partnership committee is now in place and working collaboratively to progress actions and initiatives that support community safety across the county.
Over the coming months, the LCSP will work together and with key stakeholders to identify priority aims and goals that will help shape a three‑year Community Safety Strategy for Roscommon, supporting the delivery of targeted actions to improve community safety across the county.
