Rental Accommodation Scheme
The Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) is a social housing support introduced to cater for the accommodation needs of persons who are in receipt of rent supplement and living in the private rented sector for 18 months or more and on Social Housing Waiting List.
It is envisaged that the Scheme would provide an additional source of good quality rented accommodation for those in need. When you have been housed under the RAS it is deemed your housing need has been met and you are removed from the housing waiting list.
In order for a landlord to quality for RAS Scheme they must be tax compliant and the property must pass an inspection to ensure the quality of the accommodation meets the required standard.
Inspections under Private Residential Tenancies Act 2004 – 2015
Under the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 - 2015 Local Authorities are responsible for enforcement of statutory regulations for Private Rented Accommodation and ensure that the minimum standard Regulations for the private rented sector are enforced. In line with this Roscommon County Council carries out inspections on private rented accommodation on an on-going basis and follows up landlords regarding unfit accommodation.
