Community Climate Action Programme 
Strand 1: Building Low Carbon Communities
Roscommon County Council is pleased to invite applications from community groups for capital funding under the Community Climate Action Programme – Strand 1: Building Low Carbon Communities.
A total allocation of €402,000 has been allocated by the Department of Climate Energy, and the Environment to support a wide range of community-led climate actions, regardless of a community’s size or stage in their climate journey. The programme contributes directly to the achievement of Ireland’s national climate and energy targets by enabling local solutions to global challenges.
This exciting programme is designed to empower communities to take meaningful climate action at local level in partnership with their Local Authority. This programme will provide financial supports to implement initiatives such as community energy efficiency projects, biodiversity enhancement, waste prevention, circular economy activities, nature-based solutions and sustainable transport measures. 
Who Can Apply ?
Eligible communities must be a not-for-profit; be located in the operational area of Roscommon County Council; and be registered with a PPN or connected with other collectives such as the Wheel, Tidy Towns and /or a community group with Articles of Association or a Constitution, which hold an AGM, and for which approved minutes are available.
What Projects are Eligible ?
Projects must demonstrate the delivery of national climate action at a local level. Project proposals should try to incorporate as many themes as possible. Only one application per organisation may be submitted for consideration. There are five programme themes:
- Energy
- Travel
- Food and waste
- Shopping and recycling
- Local climate and environmental action
Types of eligible projects could include:
- Solar Panels and related equipment
- Retrofitting of community buildings
- Energy efficiency upgrades
- LED community lighting
- Community EV charging points
- Low carbon technology/equipment
- Bike racks or other infrastructure
- Materials for community gardens
- Materials for repair hubs
- Composting facilities
- Pollinator projects
- Mini forest
What Funding is Available ?
Up to 100% funding may be provided to groups. There are three project sizes eligible:
- Small scale projects up to €20,000
- Medium scale projects €20,001 to €50,000
- Large scale projects €51,001 to €100,000
Please note that it will be a competitive process and projects must demonstrate the delivery of national climate action at a local level. 
Upcoming Events
Online Webinar, Wednesday 5th November at 7pm. The session will be an overview of the Programme and discuss the best way to plan your project and application. The PPN will notify all groups of this event in due course.
