Record your Biodiversity

Biodiversity in your 5k – Record your Biodiversity Record your Biodiversity

We would like to encourage you to start recording the biodiversity you spot in your 5k https://records.biodiversityireland.ie/start-recording

Ireland’s Citizen Science Portal provides a facility for recorders to submit and store their biodiversity sightings online. The system gives greater visibility to recording activity across Ireland, while at the same time making data available to feed directly into outputs such as Red Lists and conservation management initiatives in Ireland.

Recording sightings of Ireland’s biodiversity has never been easier. Here are five steps to you can follow to make your own submission:

1 Go to the National Biodiversity Data Centre’s Citizen Science Portal via the main website, or: https://records.biodiversityireland.ie

2 Hit ‘go’ to start your recording

3 Pick which recording form you would like to record from

4 Fill out your sample and observation details

5 Save your record

We would love to see more records from Co. Roscommon submitted to bring Co. Roscommon up the County Recorders League https://records.biodiversityireland.ie/stats/county-league.

http://www.wildflowersofireland.net/ or apps such as Plant Snap are very helpful if you simply don’t know the name of what you have found!

As we are all #InThisTogether, we have a limited number of FREE Identification Swatches of your choice for every 25 records submitted for Co. Roscommon. Between birds, plants and all other biodiversity you can find 25 species in your garden or 5k! All you have to do is be sure of the species and submit it on https://records.biodiversityireland.ie/start-recording. You will need to join the recorder league (so you can see your record total). Then email heritage@roscommoncoco.ie and let us know when you reach 25, 50, 75 etc!

The FREE Identification Swatches available for this initiative are funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the National Biodiversity Action Plan.
