Online Resources
Roscommon County Library makes available a number of online reference resources to registered users. The resouces can be accessed by clicking here Library Catalogue. Please ensure you have your library card because you will need the 14 digit number from the back of it. You will also need a 4 digit pin number, which you need to have registered with your local library in advance of accessing the site.
Once you have accessed your section of the Library Catalogue, you can renew items on loan, request items and check your account. You can also access the following digital resources.
Newspaper Direct/Library Press Display
Through Newspaper Direct we provide access to 250 newspapers from 55 countries in 35 languages. All newspapers are the CURRENT version; available at the time the newspaper goes to press. New titles are being added all the time. Some of the titles include: Irish Independent, Irish Times, The Washington Post, Le Figaro, La Stampa and many more. You can also view a back collection of the previous 45 days newspapers.
Xrefer Plus
Xrefer Plus makes available a wide selection of the most authoritative reference works in an online searchable format. Titles cover all major academic subject areas and include: the Bloomsbury guide to Art; The Thames & Hudson Dictionary of 20th Century Architecture, Debrett's Peerage; Collins Dictionary of Economics; Roget's II: the new thesaurus; Black's Medical Dictionary; The Penguin Dictionary of Psychology and many, many more.
Britannica Online
The online version of the renowned Encyclopedia Britannica not only allows access to all the resources of the print volumes but is also available with three age specific sections. They are: Britannica Junior, age group 5 to 11 years; Britannica Student, age group 12 to 18; Encyclopedia Britannica, age group 18+. It offers searchable and browsable collections of reference articles with thousands of links and related websites.
