Housing

To enable every household to obtain an affordable dwelling house of good quality and standard, suitable to its needs in a safe environment at a tenure of its choice.

The housing section's approach to Social Housing has been based on "A Plan for Social Housing" and "Social Housing - The Way Ahead" documents from the Department of Environment and Local Government which introduced a range of schemes responding to Housing Needs.

The Housing Section provides its services within the framework of its statement of policy, Housing Management and Maintenance and it's Strategic Plan.

The core activities carried out by the Housing section are:

  • The Housing Construction Programme including the purchase of dwellings
  • The Assessment of Housing Needs, the allocation of Local Authority dwellings, and the assessment and collection of housing rents.
  • The promotion of home ownership through Tenant Purchase Schemes, Annuity and Shared Ownership loan schemes and affordable housing schemes and reconstruction loans.
  • The improvement of accommodation for elderly and disable persons through financial assistance under the Essential Repairs Grant and Disabled Persons Grant Scheme
  • Assisting Voluntary Organisations to provide accommodation for qualifying persons
  • The provision and management of Traveller Accommodation.
  • The provision of Low Cost Sites
