Road Safety Programme
Roscommon County Council promotes various road safety initiatives.
- Junior School Wardens are trained at five primary schools in the county and all five schools participate in the Regional Competition for Junior School Wardens with schools from Roscommon, Longford and Westmeath participating in the competition annually. - In conjunction with the Road Safety Authority, Roscommon County Council distributes information leaflets and posters and assists the Road Safety Authority with specific advertising campaigns in relation to drink-driving, speeding, bank holiday travel, back to school and seat belt wearing. www.rsa.ie
- High visibility vests are available to the public and are also distributed in conjunction with An Garda Síochána.

Water Safety Programme
The Water Safety Programme is carried out over the summer season. Lifeguards are employed at Castlerea Swimming Pool and a programme of IWS swimming and lifesaving was provided in the summer. A programme of Irish Water Safety swimming classes (including transport) has been provided at Roscommon Leisure Centre for children from outlying towns and villages during the summer months.
