National Road Improvement Works
N5 Ballaghaderreen By-Pass:
The N5 Ballaghaderreen By-Pass will extend from the Mayo County Boundary to Tibohine, a distance of 13.6 kilometers. The construction of the bypass scheme commenced in the late 2012 and it is expected that significant progress will be made with the construction phase of the project in 2013 . The allocation for the scheme in 2013 is €16,525,000.
Other National Road Projects:
N61 – Ratallen /Treanagry Realignment Scheme
This scheme involves the realignment of two 1.1 km sections of the N61 at locations where severe bends currently exist. The allocation of €590,000 received from the National Roads Authority in 2013 will allow for the completion of archaeology works, detailed ground investigation works and the commencement of land purchase.
N60 – Oran Improvement Scheme
This project involves the realignment of the N60 National Secondary Road between Fearaghafin and Cloonebaun townlands. The proposed road development is approximately 3.4km in length. The allocation of €740,000 received in 2013 will allow for the completion of the Part 8 Planning Process, the advancement of the CPO process, advanced archaeological testing and the preparation of construction documentation.
N61 – Coolteige Project
This project is located immediately north of Roscommon Town and consists of the realignment of approximately 3 km of a seriously deficient section of the N61 National Secondary route. The scheme will extend from the outskirts of Roscommon Town to the previously improved section of the N61 in the townland of Maullymux. Draft documentation for the Compulsory Purchase Order is being prepared and subject to the approval of the National Roads Authority, it is intended to publish the Compulsory Purchase Order in 2013.
