Higher Education Grants Files

Roscommon County Council administers the Higher Education Grants Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills.

The Scheme applies to students undertaking a full-time approved course in an approved institution at the following levels:

• Honours Bachelor Degree (Level 8)
• Higher or Post Graduate Diploma (Level 8)
• Masters Degree (Level 9)
• Doctoral Degree (Level 10)

Private colleges or part time courses do not come within the scope of the Higher Education Grants Scheme.

Students undertaking Post Leaving Certificate, Higher Certificate or Ordinary Bachelor Degree courses (Levels 5 -7) should apply to Roscommon VEC. Students planning to attend an Institute of Technology, regardless of the level of course should apply to Roscommon VEC.

New Applications for Academic Year 2012/2013

Changes as a result of the Budget in December 2011 to Postgraduate applications

There will be changes to the fee and maintenance grants system for post-graduate studies for new entrants. No maintenance grants will be paid for new entrants from the 2012/13 academic year. Fees will continue to be paid for those students that would previously have qualified for the special rate of grant. In addition based on their means some post graduate students will be awarded a €2,000 fee contribution grant. This will apply to new entrants from 2012/2013 academic year.

Single Awarding Body

It is intended that a new grant awarding authority will accept all new student grant applications from the 2012/13 academic year onwards. Roscommon County Council will continue to deal with the renewal of applications for their existing grant-holders for the duration of their current courses.

New Applications for Academic Year 2011/2012

The Higher Education Grants Scheme and application forms for students planning to attend college for September 2011 is now available. The Application Form, Guidelines, Course Acceptance Forms etc. are available to download below or from www.studentfinance.ie.
