Community Waste Workshop
Community Groups (e.g. Tidy Towns, ICA) across County Roscommon avail of free Waste Management Workshops in their local area.
If you wish to find out more about reducing, reusing and recycling your waste (including composting) or to book a waste check / compost clinic in your area, please contact Suzanne Dempsey, Environmental Education Officer, Roscommon County Council, 09066 37268,sdempsey@roscommoncoco.ie
The EAO is available to talk to community groups on waste management, in particular addressing the issues of Waste Reduction, recycling and litter awareness. Each talk facilitates the group to discuss ways in which their members can make beneficial changes in the waste management of their household waste.
Community groups can also participate in the Green Home Programme which has been developed by An Taisce in partnership with the EPA. The Green Homes Programme is based on the hugely successful Green Schools Programme and will assist the householder to identify opportunities to save money by reducing waste and conserving energy.
The Green Home Programme is designed primarily for householders in an effort to promote positive environmental action within their own homes. As you will see from the accompanying literature, the Green Home Programme can be implemented by both schools and community groups.
Information seminars on the four main topics of Waste, Energy, Water and Transport will be provided for participating groups and they will be actively encouraged to review their own use of same in the home. Based on their findings, new actions can be implemented which could save the household money and also have a long-term positive impact on the environment.
Community Groups that successfully complete this two-year programme will receive a nationally recognised award from An Taisce.
