What is the RCDB? (Bord Forbartha Chontae Ros Comáin)
The Roscommon County Development Board is made up of 27 members who represent the key agencies and organisations involved in the delivery of services in the county. There are four sectors specifically that the Board is obliged to draw upon for membership;
- Local Government
- Local Development
- State Agencies
- Social Partners
The role of the Board is to promote co-operation between all agencies and development groups operating in the county and oversee the development and implementation of the County’s 10 year Economic, Social and Cultural Strategy 2002 – 2012
Is the RCDB part of Roscommon County Council
The RCDB was established as part of the reform of Local Government in 2001. The Board is an independent body funded and supported by Roscommon County Council.
The RCDB is administered from the offices of Community ad Enterprise Department of Roscommon County Council for which the Local Authority provides an operational budget. Apart from this, the RCDB has no other source of funding.
How does the RCDB Deliver Projects with no Funding?
The preparation of a ten-year strategic plan was the first task of the RCDB when it was set up in 2001. This involved all the agencies and organisation on the Board committing resources to the implementation of the Economic, Social and Cultural Strategic Plan. In some cases several agencies are involved in delivering specific services or working on particular projects and in other circumstances only one or two may be involved.
Several reviews of the CDB strategy have taken place in 2006 and in 2009 and new priorities were identified. Please see ‘Review of the RCDB Priorities 2006-2008 and Priorities for mid 2009-end 2012.
