Sports Scholarships 2011/2012

Information for Nominators

• Sports scholarships are intended for persons of outstanding sporting ability (i.e. participating at International, National, Inter-Provincial, Inter-County, Senior Club level), those who have displayed outstanding potential or dedication to the sport.
• Applicants should have:
  • excellent potential,
  • outstanding ability in their particular sport,
  • be performing at a high level in their chosen sport,
  • have a desire to represent their County at their sport,
  • Be a resident of County Roscommon and
  • Have a strong desire to pursue a third level academic course.
• The applicant must satisfy the academic criteria for entry to a third level college and be registered as a full time student before final acceptance of the scholarship award. 
• Recipients must make themselves available for photo sessions and other promotional events on behalf of Roscommon County Council
• The Scholarship will be awarded in its first year to a student with achievements in G.A.A. sports.
• Each Sports Scholarship award is assessed on an individual basis by the Sports Scholarship Committee.(sub committee of RCC)consisting of The Mayor, Director of Services and a nominee from the Earley Family.
• Applicants will be short-listed and may be interviewed as part of the selection process.
• Scholarships will be awarded for 1^st year students only and is a one off payment in the sum of €2,000        subject to satisfactory sporting and academic performance.
• Awardees must declare all other sponsorships and grants at the time of application.
• An application for the bursary must be made by a third party ie. Sporting Club, Organisation,  on behalf of the nominee.
• Only one nomination may be made by a third party.
