European Year for Active Ageing & Solidarity between Generations 2012

Each year the European Commission designates a ‘European Year’ to raise awareness about a particular social issue. 2012 is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.

The year aims to raise awareness about the rapidly ageing EU population, promote an age-friendly environment and find new solutions to turn ageing into an opportunity.

A wide range of activities are planned at European, national and local level such as:

Conferences, events and initiatives to promote debate and raise awareness of the importance of active ageing
Information, promotion and educational campaigns
Exchange of information, experience and good practices
Research and surveys on a community or national scale

Roscommon County Council will be involved in and support a number of activities throughout the year.
