European Year For Active Ageing & Solidarity Between Generation 2012

European Year for Active Ageing & Solidarity between Generations 2012
Each year the European Commission designates a ‘European Year’ to raise awareness about a particular social issue. 2012 is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.
The year aims to raise awareness about the rapidly ageing EU population, promote an age-friendly environment and find new solutions to turn ageing into an opportunity.
A wide range of activities are planned at European, national and local level such as:
- Conferences, events and initiatives to promote debate and raise awareness of the importance of active ageing
- Information, promotion and educational campaigns
- Exchange of information, experience and good practices
- Research and surveys on a community or national scale
Roscommon County Council will be involved in and support a number of activities throughout the year.
Further information on the year is available on the official European websitewww.europa.eu/active-ageing-2012.
