Disability-Accessibility

The National Disability Strategy was launched in September 2004. It sets out a series of legistlative measures that aims to strengthen the participation of people with disabilities in society using an integrated approach.

The strategy is comprised of 4 main parts:

  1. Disability Act (2005).
  2. The Citizens Information Bill (2006).
  3. Six Outline Sectoral Plans.
  4. A multi-annual Investment Programme for disability support service.

Roscommon County Council is continuously working to improve accessibility in many ways for all its citizens. To help us realise our commitments under the Disability Act (2005) we have now prepared a Disability Implementation Plan.

The plan lays out a programme of actions to ensure that public buildings, services and information provided by Roscommon County Council are made more accessible in accordance with the Disability Act (2005) and the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government's Sectoral Plan (2006).

It details what we've been doing to improve access to date and what we intend to do over the coming years so that all citizens can access, use and enjoy our range of services and facilities in a real and tangible way.
