Heritage Research Bursary 2019

Roscommon County Council has been awarding an annual Heritage Research Bursary since 2012 as an action of the County Roscommon Heritage Plan. The aim of the County Roscommon Heritage Plan is to continue to create and promote an increased knowledge, awareness and appreciation of the natural, built and cultural heritage of County Roscommon and to conserve it for future generations, in other words: notice - care - enjoy. Strategic Goal 8 of County Roscommon Heritage Plan is to collect and disseminate heritage information. Bursary reports from previous years can be downloaded below.

To apply for the Heritage Research Bursary, applications must outline the research coverage. The research topic or site must be located in County Roscommon. The research project must be at MA, MSc or PhD level in a recognised third level college. Applications must demonstrate how their research will contribute to fulfilment of the aim and Strategic Goal 8 of the County Roscommon Heritage Plan 2017-2021 http://www.roscommoncoco.ie/en/Services/Community/Heritage/Heritage/County-Roscommon-Heritage-Plan-2017-2021/   Applicants must demonstrate how their research will fill gaps in an understudied aspect of the heritage of County Roscommon. Applicants must demonstrate an innovative research methodology and outline the motivations for their research. There is one bursary award only. The maximum value of the award is €1,000.00.

Outreach is an important element of the bursary award and applicants must outline proposals to inform County Roscommon Heritage Forum and the wider Roscommon heritage community of their research findings. County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society have been excellent partners in this regard, welcoming speakers on all aspect of built, natural or cultural heritage.
